In July 2003 business travel took me to Boston. I am glad I made the commuter rail trek out to West Newton to visit Sheldon at Harris Cyclery on the eve of one of his many trips to France. He and I had exchanged numerous cordial and constructive emails over the years, and he was a first-class gentleman as well as an undisputed expert in his field.
