I've lived in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area for 18 years and I must say the people of Arizona are not the nicest, especially the drivers. I'm currently looking to move to Portland in September for a much needed change of scenery and attitude. The drivers here scare me and I do my best to stay well away from them when on my bike and in my car.
This problem is probably not limited to that area, as well as drivers not appreciating bicyclists on the road. I'll bet one of those "gated" homes has an owner or one of their kids who is out on a bike.
They don't own the road. Or the shopping mall, nor the corner store. Sigh. I get really tired of informing drivers of the fact that we are legal to be there and that we actually have the same rights as them on the road. I get a blank stare.
