I do wear road bike shoes on my road bike because I can't see doing that dorky hot spot walk at a rest stop 80 miles into a century because of those tiny little cleats on pedals designed for offroad riding focusing the pressure onto a small spot on my foot when I could have used a cleat designed to spread the pressure over a wider area while riding for several hours.
