No one in that picture seems to be dressed in the "funny baggy pants, a seersucker shirt, boutique underwear, and sandles" recommended on the Rivendell site that he was talking about. I don't think anyone said they never saw anyone wear their regular street clothes on a bike.

In my opinion...they are quite a funny sight. Or as you put in in the first line of your quoted link: I think it is hilarious.
Yes fat riders going 10 mph on the MUP in team kit look silly, but so what. So do the folks who wear the jerseys for pro football or basketball teams, but that is their business. I personally prefer plain bike shorts and jerseys, ride a bit faster, and prefer not to ride on MUPs. That doesn't mean anyone else is obligated to make the same choices.

AH, a 50+ POSEUR!

Just wait until you start using the "large print" bike computer and can't patch a g.d. tire without your reading specs. Theeeennn you'll be cranky.

I ride mostly for recreation - just as I ski and (very rarely) jog. I wear semi-specialize clothing for each, although there's a lot of crossover between the two. I just enjoy it more and it's more comfortable with wicking fabrics, athletic designed shorts and (baggy) tights, etc. I tend to wear the same when I commute since my commute is a pretty hilly 20 mile ride and I like the cycling clothing for such a strenuous ride and change when I get to work. Where I live, I can't run errands w/o the 20 mile hilly ride, so I rarely do it.

I've even taken to wearing my (baggy) tights, and various flavors of XC or cycling tops, jackets, etc. when I hike in the mountains. Just works better than jeans and cotton shorts and shirts. FWIW, NBD, YMMV, etc.

I do wear MTB shoes on my road bike because I can't see the dorky duck walk of road shoes, even from car to bike.

Take care.

I'm in my 50th year. A little slack please.

My Sidis are MTB 'cause I wear them to the grocery, work, friend's, my hardwood floors etc. The Dragons have nice gooey rubber cleats that don't slip around on smooth surfaces. I also have a pair of regular-looking shoes that have SPDs. I often ride my Pugsley in hiking boots cause they have platform pedals and I like them on that bike.

I do wear road bike shoes on my road bike because I can't see doing that dorky hot spot walk at a rest stop 80 miles into a century because of those tiny little cleats on pedals designed for offroad riding focusing the pressure onto a small spot on my foot when I could have used a cleat designed to spread the pressure over a wider area while riding for several hours.

I have biked 150 miles in one day on a loaded touring bike weighing better than 70 lbs on some roller-coaster hills and flats with no problems wearing ATB shoes, although I understand the theory behind roadie shoes. During an actual race, or a century where you are trying to git-er-done in a reasonable time, you would probably be hunkering down on those pedals a lot harder than I.

Patagonia Puckerwear (seersucker) shirt, Smartwool socks, Prana baggie Suplex (R) shorts, and Patagucci Capilene boxers all powered by 661 shoes with SPD cleats.

Yeah, that's me. Ya'll should be able to find all sorts of stuff to make fun of in this photo.

Here's a chap that crossed a rather nasty deserted stretch of western Australia solo. Apparently no audience to appreciate lycra on this trip.

You should definitely check out his trip photo journal: https://www.wildworks.co.nz/csr/photo...i=img_0944.jpg

This is me on an off-road day. Every other person on this ride got poison ivy and took lots of insect bites through their lycra.

Gramicci Supplex pants, Columbia Titanium poly shirt, Smartwool socks, Five-Ten boots.

Yea but do your socks stand up by themselves at the end of the day?

PS: the "boy" (sub 50-er) obviously knows how to have fun. But you'll have to admit you'e not saving any money over the lycra crowd.

I think it's about irony.

"poseur n. One who affects a particular attribute, attitude, or identity to impress or influence others. "

Not me. It's not what I choose, but it works for you and that is what matters.

Likewise if team kit works for some fat guy going 10 MPH on a MUP I am fine with that too.
