I am neither car free, nor can I call myself a dedicated commuter. I had been taking the bus to work, but biking just makes more sense. I have never liked winter biking, but I will ride as far into the season as I can.
As for the flat -- I guess it's a pretty good average. I just hope I don't makeup for it now

We do have a Winter Cycling forum, just in case you'd care to try to expand your season, but admittedly it's not for everyone

Having a back up is a good idea, and I have no doubt that the Bianchi will serve you well for that duty.
