Bikes: 1987 Celeste Bianchi MTB, 2007 KHS Urban Extreme Hybrid

Hello

Well after 20 years riding my Celeste Bianchi MTB I finally gave in and bought a hybrid commuter (2007 KHS Urban Extreme) to cycle my slow ass to and from work. Which is why I am here now... looking for info on the new biking gear. The new bike has reminded me why I enjoyed cycling so much.

In all my time riding the mtb I never encountered a flat tyre. Two days on the hybrid and I find myself learning about replacing a burst tube.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi.

Hello SynapCycle, that's sad to hear about the Bianchi not being a worthy steed anymore, especially when it's a Celeste Bianchi, but hey, it's a good excuse to buy a bike .

Are you car free, or a dedicated commuter? Do you ride year round? You were way overdue for a flat if you had not had one in 20 years with the Bianchi, I just wish I had that kind of luck with my tyres.

Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions !

The bianchi is still worthy, but to convert it was expensive and just seemed wrong. It will be used for back up and trail riding (what little I do), but that's it for now.

I am neither car free, nor can I call myself a dedicated commuter. I had been taking the bus to work, but biking just makes more sense. I have never liked winter biking, but I will ride as far into the season as I can.

As for the flat -- I guess it's a pretty good average. I just hope I don't makeup for it now

We do have a Winter Cycling forum, just in case you'd care to try to expand your season, but admittedly it's not for everyone .

Having a back up is a good idea, and I have no doubt that the Bianchi will serve you well for that duty.
