It's friggin' "Shell Shock".

Shell Shock is definitely a real mental illness induced by extreme physical and/or mental trauma from combat. There isn't much "toughening of the skin" which is done in regular everyday living to help fight it. Serious attention and therapy is needed for such cases, especially military personel, or other stress induced disorders like children who were abused, etc. I'll be the first to say, drugs are not always the answer. Much research has proven, the love of ones family and a good therapist to talk to, is the best medicine for most traumatically induced disorders.
PTSD is also triggered by other very traumatic events, like ****. I'm not sure if there's medicine that actually helps with the disorder, but I've heard that intense counseling and care are the real solutions.
