Anyone Else Have ADD?
#52
When I was teaching back in the dark ages before ADD, ADHD, and, yes, "Life Coaches," I would send the boys out on the field and have them run around the track several times. Seemed to work.
And now the schools are doing away with recess and physical education. Go figure. Must be the idea of the pharmaceutical companies.
I'm NOT a 50+'r, I am a 65+'r.
By the way, how does someone get to be a "Life Coach?" I need a part-time job.

We had real PE, and intramural sports in Jr. High and elementary school, and no TV during the summer. I rode my bike as long as it wasn't snowing and so did most of my friends. No one went to a psychologist/psychiatrist unless they were very noticeably disturbed.
I agree w/your comment re pharmaceutical companies. What a shame.
You have all the knowledge you need to be a Life Coach, D. I bet you'd be a darned good one, too.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
We had to go and add a bunch of syllables, and give it a fancy name in order to classify it.
It's friggin' "Shell Shock".
Shell Shock is definitely a real mental illness induced by extreme physical and/or mental trauma from combat. There isn't much "toughening of the skin" which is done in regular everyday living to help fight it. Serious attention and therapy is needed for such cases, especially military personel, or other stress induced disorders like children who were abused, etc. I'll be the first to say, drugs are not always the answer. Much research has proven, the love of ones family and a good therapist to talk to, is the best medicine for most traumatically induced disorders.

There is no such thing as ADD. When I was a kid nobody had ADD. Nobody had panic attacks. Women didn't suffer from PMS. Nobody ever died watching somebody else eat peanuts. Nobody ever suffered from post traumatic stress disorder and there was no such thing as Life Coaches. These are all modern inventions.
You're just not into biking right now. Take a couple of days off and you'll be fine.

While I do believe the whole ADD/ADHD thing got out of hand during the 90's, that doesn't make it any less real.
