Follow the care instructions for your Brooks. Proofide it and leave the damn thing alone for 24 hours, buff the surface and if you feel like, apply another coat - or just ride. The Proofide is akin to shoe polish for leather shoes. You're applying a protective coating to the leather to keep water out, keep the leather 'healthy' and supple enough to break in, but not sag and not dry out. Treat it properly and don't try to rush things. It has to soak into the leather, so leave it be for a bit.
