I thought cyclists worked mostly on strength, and only really in the "off" season.
I've read some of the weight training threads (not thouroughly), and I really
don't how some of these guys can do leg weights during a racing season.
Maybe it's because they're 21, and not thirty-_____.......well, my age
Frankly......bugger all.
For trained endurance cyclists (read road and track events longer than about 90 seconds) a gym routine is of limited benefit. The hypertrophy of muscle groups is a distinct disadvantage in terms of power:weight ratio. For track sprinters, gym is crucial, eg. Florian Rousseau could squat 305kg for reps.
Where a lot of people get confused is that they do comparitively little traninng of any sort....~100km a week, 1 or 2 gym sessions and say "Wow!! Doing weights has really helped my cycling!!" When actually any type of exercise is doing them good.
