The Trek 720 Touring from the early 80's is still regarded as one of the best touring bikes...if you can find one. I have a 1983 Trek 620 Touring (I couldn't afford the 720 back then) and it's still an excellent touring/commuting bike. The 520 was the most common of the 3 models and can still be found used. It's the model that has evolved into today's Trek 520 touring bike. It was a good bike back then so it's no wonder that it's now one of the most popular touring bikes after 25 years.
