This has some possibilities! I, too, would like to be able to see the numbers on my shifters at night. On my winter bike - a Trek 820 mtb - the stock Shimano front derailleur shifter takes a click-and-a-half to go from small ring to middle ring, but only one click to go from middle to big ring - a click-and-a-half shifts the chain off onto the crankarm. Putting it back on in the dark and cold isn't any fun!
