Apologies if this has been covered, can't seem to find a straight answer by searching.

Can I use smaller width tires on 1 1/4" Araya rims? For instance 1 1/8" or even 1"?

BTW the Panaracer in the rear of my 88 Schwinn WS is too tall and nearly rubs. Wondering if anyone else finds that a problem and if so what tires you use to leave room enough for fenders.
