brent says DA are the best bet until the phil cogs come out in a few months.

I have used DA and EAI on phils. I'm not sure what's going on with your situation, though. A photo would certainly help. Some of the phil lockrings are chamfered (sp?) and may have more thread engagement than it looks like they would.
