Thats exactly how I do it. I only bother to adjust the straps before and after winter for my boots.
Just practice a bit with them, it's real easy.
When I started riding 20 some years ago, you could still get cleats with slots in them so that your shoes would be somewhat locked to the pedals when you tightened the straps. Even then, you could get your shoes out of the pedals with a bit of practice.
