A mistake I made when I was starting to skid, that I never found in the threads available, was to concentrate so much on mashing the pedals back that I was actually pulling up on the handlebars a little like a kid trying to do a wheelie. So I had the leg power to move the wheel backwards, but the increase in traction turned it into a skip stop. Actively concentrating on pressing down on the bars led me to skid.
