Exactly. Once you get to dreamland, phrases like "usually only hit 38 in a sprint" make more sense...

Although, I was on a recreational century today where a fair number of people looked like they were holding cruising speeds in the 22-25 range. It seems reasonable that a sufficiently strong rider could pull off 38 miles like that after some time off the bike.
