I find it's just too easy to reset it accidentally. I stopped to lean over the bars to turn my headlight on, and didn't realize until I started rolling again that I'd accidentally leaned on the computer and reset the the current trip distance (which was what was showing on the display at the time). PITA, but I like it other than this.

But I've never seen it totally reset itself (that is, go to initialization mode) as the OP seems to have had happen.
