I used Dupli-Color spray paint on mine, which seems a lot more durable than Krylon stuff. What I did was to sand the crankarms, prime them, and then put on a couple coats of the Dupli-Color low-gloss black that's made for engine parts and is apparently ceramic in some sense. Really nice finish. When it starts to wear, I may strip and re-paint them, this time using the self-etching primer if I can find it. If you use the same kind of paint I did, just make sure you let it cure long enough to harden properly.
