What about a scenario where you only want a front brake? I'm used to riding road levers obviously, and yes that is definitely comfortable. I'm just curious what would the best option be then?

Get a pair of tektro levers...you can find them for $20 and they are decent levers. Saw the right lever off, leaving just enough for your index finger to wrap around the front of the lever when you are holding onto the hood.. Thats what I did...works perfectly.
