It's easy enough to use a channel lock pliers and big crescent wrench to get your BB out, but when you'll put it back together, it's really helpful to use a lock-ring tool, so that you can hold the cone with the wrench while you tighten the lockring. That's hard to do with non-specialized tools.

It's not that hard to do! Even if you have to make a couple attempts to get it right, that only takes a minute or 2.
