In line with having a frame you like chromed, one of the instructors at United Bicycle Institute in Ashland, Oregon, had his/her fixed gear bike nickel-plated.
It looked beautiful.
Nickel plate doesn't have the same highly-reflective bluishness of chrome, and looks softer and more lustrous, and more grayish than bluish.
Also, nickel won't take the beating that chrome will take, but nickel does better than powdercoat or conventional paint in terms of durability.
