Hey climbo, I did the ride from North Sydney to Gosford yesterday and it's not too bad.
There are loads of little climbs out of North Sydney all the way to Berowra. Most of them have little kickers at the top of them which adds a bit of ache in the legs later on. After Cowan there's a nastee little 500m climb just before Pie in the Sky. After that you have the spectacular downhill to Hawksbury River. Long steady climb up to Calga, then fast down to Mooney Ck, another long, steady climb up to Somersby and your there.
There weren't too many motorbikes out (<9am) but we still got passed by a few + 1 impatient car. A guy died at Somesby later on in the day. Came off his motorbike on a bend. So early is good, aim to get to to Kariong by 8:30am on a weekend. It should take you about 2hrs solo from the top of Pymble hill.
