i own several bikes equipped with both 10 speed centaur and chorus and imo, there's no functional difference between the two. the feel of the shifting actuation of the chorus/record brifters is just marginally lighter/smoother than centaur but their composite downshift paddles are also fractionally more flexible/less crisp than the centaur's rigid aluminum lever, offsetting any potential increase in shifting speed or precision. ime, the only "benefits" of the more expensive chorus and record road groups over centaur for the recreational rider/ amateur racer is in weight reduction and bling/status.
