That depends on whether the frame is made for one or not. Older frames often had those guides cast right into the bottom bracket shell, so you couldn't use one of the plastic guides unless you did extensive work to the frame; filing those down and drilling a hole for the guide to mount, which I doubt anyone would want to do anyway.

I'd guess the Mondonico would require the plastic guide. Are there any guides already cast in the BB shell, or is there just a screw hole underneath. If just a hole, that's where the plastic guide would mount.
