Bike-vs-dog
Do any of you folks wanna share your adventures you had with stray dogs on your commute?
Once while riding home from work during a down pour I noticed a german sheperd heading towrds me, so I picked up my pace and sure enough this mutt wants to chase me. Great! I love racing dogs. As long as I have a head start. The race began with a up hill ride. The rain was coming down in sheets. And the giant dog was gaining fast. I think I might need to whack the 4 legged terror with my tire pump but I roll over the crest of the hill with time to spare. I shift both the front and rear gears to "hard" stand-up and start to pump those pedals like my life depended on it! The dog is over the crest and hot on my heels! I go faster and faster! Distant widening between Godzilla and me. Not out of danger yet though! a 4-way stop at the bottom of the hill awaits me and I'm just going way to fast! F__k-it! I'm going through! I timed it just right to go side-by-side with a car traveling the same direction. I beat the car through the intersection and looked behind me to see the dog get run over by a car! No, just kidding! The dog was far behind me and just a spot on the road, but still determined to get me. What is with this dog? A few minutes later he gave up. It stopped raining and I hopped off my bike cried like a baby. No, just kidding again. I rode home feelinggreat, like I just won a bike event of sorts. And in a way, I guess I did.
I never saw the monster dog again. Sure. I raced a few "lap dogs" since then. But....it's not the same. God I miss that dog.
