Okay - tried a little experiment here.

1 - Kurt Kinetic Road Machine - I really like this trainer, but for short intense efforts I always get tire slip (the bike has Conti 4 Seasons, which have much less slip than Vittoria Rubino Pros). With a 20sec burst and only 10 sec to recover, all the slippage and delay in ramping up really messes with structure of the interval. Are there other systems that work better?

2. Rollers (Sportcrafters/CycleOps w/mag resistance set to 5, the max). This works surprisingly well ramping up and spinning like mad for the interval. The rest interval is a bit difficult because you can't really spin lightly then right back up without very rapid up and down shifts. In terms of control, I was fine. I'm more likely to have problems on rollers at low speed. Also, I do roller workouts in a doorway to limit risk of epic fail. Only got through 3 intervals before I had to give it up.

Verdict - Rollers are better indoor set up for this workout, but some form of resistance is required to keep speed and cadence at reasonable levels while still pushing high watts.
