Happy New Year all..... hardly rode my bike(s) all Xmas break, not very nice, went surfing instead which was awesome !

First tech question of the year. It's MTB related so I kow it's not supposed to be on the "road" board.

Having not done this for a while, I put on my crankset which I have a new 32 ring for on my MTB. It has a Race Face outer (42), Shimano 32, and no name 22 inner ring. I am running 9 speed with a SRAM chain. Now the thing won't shift down from the 32 to the 22. When the der. moves over nothing happens at all, it just rubs more and more on the chain, it won't get off the 32 ring no matter what I try. From the 42 down to the 32 it is great.

Only thing I can think of is that I need a Shimano chain, not a SRAM one but would that make a big difference?

What the hell am I supposed to be doing here?
