Definitely "could be's".

The sports car I bought in August is a prime example of what you postulated. When the economy goes south, folks that overextended themselves need to jettison the toys and generate cash. Conversely, Folks (like me) that live well within their means and have their financial house in order can go bargain hunting for the toys that they've had their eye on.

The economy still sucks, but if you have little or no debt service you're in a relatively good position.
