Is this Ciocc worth an investigation?

I can't tell what the components are from the photos. My guess is that the wheels are Mavic GP4. The components look like they could be chorus? or something lower. Any ideas? The price is right. I'll bet the bike has been sold already.

The time you spent working up this thread could have been spent going to get that bike.

at that price it was gone in a nanosecond...if it was ever real, that is...seems to be a lot of fakers and baiters on CL lately.

So are their at least some decent finds occasionally? Just getting into the vintage thing. PM me if you want so we are not taking this way off topic.

You're not even the only vintage guy in Honey Brook, so it happens.
I found a Raleigh Super Course with the Capella lugs (circa 1973) at a yard sale for $30 bucks once. That's a bout as good as it gets here. Lots of Amish folks on Schwinns they probably bought 30 years ago and are still riding. Maybe they know something I don't. Actually, I'm sure they do.
(On-topic part of post - I once owned an early Ciocc San Cristobal frame. Very nice.)

Yesterday I got the first bike I have purchase of an online classified in oh ... hmmm damn year and a half at least? I was lucky to catch the ad 20 minutes after it went up and got the first email in. The very kind and honourable fellow gave me first dibs and I showed up and paid the asking price without question. I was only an early 1980s apollo in excellent shape, but it's in top condition and a high end bike, it was $75. It's not often a deal like that comes around these days.

Assuming it ever existed. I'm watching a lot of unbelievable crap on Richmond Craigslist as I'm currently looking for a car.

How about a 2006 BMW 330ix with 28,000 miles for $5900.00? Or a 2004 Mini Cooper S for $6500.00. Botjh well photographed, both absolutely mint. Assuming they're for real - which I'm not.

On higher end bikes, I am starting to see some deals around here. I posted the Colnago I bought last week off Craigs List. It was on C/L for three days, so it lasted more than a nanosecond for sure. It wasn't free, but I thought the price was low. Some people are hurting for cash right now, and dumping high dollar toys, particularly those that are paid for, can make a difference, even if sold for 50 cents on a dollar.

I am not saying those cars are for real. But they could be.

I am not having any problem selling lower to mid grade bikes. I have sold six in January. My theory is that people are now buying used (in the $100 to $200 range) and not buying new from the LBS (in the $500 to $1000 range). Thrift is "in". So my guess is that the local shops are hurting on bike sales.

Is it an Imperial or a Gran Sport?

You just have to look continuously, and be willing to drive a distance. Not every good deal is nearby. I just posted today's deals for me. They were about four hours away. But I was in route home, so I checked all of the Craigs Lists cities between where I was and home. Looking for bikes has been almost a daily hunt for me. And when you see a deal, move fast.

Definitely "could be's".

The sports car I bought in August is a prime example of what you postulated. When the economy goes south, folks that overextended themselves need to jettison the toys and generate cash. Conversely, Folks (like me) that live well within their means and have their financial house in order can go bargain hunting for the toys that they've had their eye on.

The economy still sucks, but if you have little or no debt service you're in a relatively good position.

I have been starting to look more, but usually just in the Philly, Lancaster, and Reading areas. As much as I would love to pick up more bikes, unfortunately, I am a little strapped myself with the wife student teaching (oddly enough Mudboy, in TV, but at HB Elementary). Even then, with getting used to a mortgage, and trying to get some cash put away, I can't pick up much now. Now if only I could just convince my wife that I could flip some bikes and make a profit, and pick up tools and some more interesting toys along the way...

My problem is though, I don't want to part with the bike once I have worked on it.
