It seems to be an American-only usage. I knew it meant women's underpants in the UK, but I didn't know it means that also in Canada. Interesting. I'm not surprised to learn that the British meaning is the same in Australia.

Anyway, in the US, knickers means trousers that end just below the knee. What do you call them?

Also, in the US, the word "pants" means trousers. I understand that in the UK, it means men's underpants.
