It seems to be an American-only usage. I knew it meant women's underpants in the UK, but I didn't know it means that also in Canada. Interesting. I'm not surprised to learn that the British meaning is the same in Australia.
Anyway, in the US, knickers means trousers that end just below the knee. What do you call them?

"Pants" can mean any form of trousers, or, well, pants, male of female, but it is most commonly used for womens trousers. Underwear is often called underpants.
