One of my bikes is a Nexus 8 IGH. Needless to say I have no issues with it throwing the chain. Overall range of 305% is comparable to a 1 x 9.

That being said, I prefer the 3 x 9 105/LX setup on my Trek 520. On most rides I wind up using all 3 chainrings.
I have been considering an IGH. I want a drivetrain that's simple and easy to keep clean.

I might not ever convert a 2x9 into a 1x9. If I could just yank off the front der. and hit the road I would do it.

Unfortunately it seems like I need to add 2-3 special parts to compensate for the missing F.D.

That's not my idea of simplification...I might make sense on a new build or rebuild.

EDIT: Metricoclock seems to have pulled it off without any special gadgets.
