I've used Testors model paint and just mixed a close approximation of my bike's paint. Works well.

The other thing you might want to consider is using a rust-preventative primer first.

How are you removing the rust? I've got a similar situation with a few small rust spots--not large enough that I want to get out the sand paper, but enough that I want them to go away. Any luck with rust converter?
