Touch up paint?

My panasonic has some rust on the top-tube cable guides. I can get the rust off but I'd like some tips on selecting the right paint. This will likely be applied by brush to small, localized areas.

What type/brand paint should I use?

I've used Testors model paint and just mixed a close approximation of my bike's paint. Works well.

The other thing you might want to consider is using a rust-preventative primer first.

How are you removing the rust? I've got a similar situation with a few small rust spots--not large enough that I want to get out the sand paper, but enough that I want them to go away. Any luck with rust converter?

I was thinking of using the brass wire wheel on my dremel and using some naval jelly for what's left. it's kind of an intricate little guide so i doubt i could hand sand it. i'll likely use some rust-inhibiting primer sprayed on. any recommendations on that?

nice thought on the testors! i haven't used that stuff since i was a kid and my dad and i used to "repaint" my bashed up hot wheels. great stuff.

Nail polish also works well. I've used Testors too; no problems with either one.

1+ Testors and rust removal with an emory board or a dremel with the appropriate bit. Lp

I'm a big fan of the ZIG Painty Markers. They are available in a variety of tip sizes and come in 60+ colors. Maybe not a perfect match, but easy to apply.

I'm not really familiar with bike finishes but I am with mid 80's car finishes. Is there a clear coat on top? I know I can find clear-coat testors if I need to.

Where does one find Testor's paints? This reminds me - I'll be close to a Macy's today. I should skip in and check the fingernail-polish.

Bikes: Steelman road bike, '81 Schwinn Le Tour single speed,

any hobby store should have Testors. Or Walmart near the toys.

If you are looking for an exact match and don't mind going for a few $$, most modern auto body shops can match paint colors almost to perfection.
They may be able to mix a small quantity.

going that route would likely be more than I want to spend. I just need something to last for a bit (at least a season or two) until i decide if I want to strip it down and start from bare metal.
