If neither cobwebs nor calcification have snuck up on me, I seem to recollect that sheldonbrown.com reports that all Shimano SIS rear shifters work with all SIS rear derailers; however, that only SIS front 'mountain' shifters work with SIS 'mountain derailers'.

So the OP should be good with Dura Ace 9 speed downtube shifters and his Deore rear derailer.
