I've used rubbing alcohol in a small spray bottle for cleanup as needed for years. Commuting, touring (2monthlongs and on my year tour), hiking & backpacking (including 2 monthlongs).

The trick I've found, is to find a spray bottle that sprays a fine mist, like a cologne atomizer. I've found these bottles (http://www.internatural.com/ingr/ingr174062.cfm) in the travel sized section of a big box store a few years ago. I'm still using the same bottle, and have given a bunch away.

I like to use 91% rubbing alcohol, but 50-70% works too.
