"That is the stupidest thing I have ever seen." was yelled at me yesterday by some old bitty in her car. I smiled and waved but inside was screaming a slew of profanity that would have curled her hair.
Granted, we are an unusual sight: tandem pulling a child's trailer, but I can't figure out why it would be deemed 'stupid'.
Kept nagging at me for the rest of the ride. Why? Why would someone say that? In the end I decided that her comment was based on her own ignorance, a void of experiences different than her own small world, and perhaps a lack of confidence in her driving abilities. Or perhaps she was just wanting to shame me for exposing my child to such a dangerous situation (how dare I bike with my child!)
I dunno. I don't have a snappy comeback in situations like this and I'm not sure how effective they would be anyway. Whether they are yelling insults or words of admiration .. they all get the same outward response: big smile and a wave.
