BTW - an alternative to Hammergel might be something like honey, or your own mixture using maltodextrin from a wine making establishment, or 100% orange juice ... something sort of liquidy and sweet.
Rather than energy bars, I eat oatmeal raisin or oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. The cookies taste better and have basically the same nutrients as energy bars.
Like I said, you've got to look it up.
