A few days ago, a good friend picked up an older Specialized Cross Roads at a thrift shop. It's in really good shape, good paint, 700C rubber, good seat, very light surface rust on things like the seatpost. Tange CroMo tubing, and not very heavy. None of the 21 speeds would shift. He paid $10.

This morning, I adjusted all the shifty bits, and the brakes, fit the seat and bars to him, and all is good. Someone had adjusted the Low and Hi speed limit screws all the way in, and the front DR was just all gummed up, and stuck. WD-40 got stuff moving again, and revealed no looseness in any joints, anywhere.

I also told him to give it a good washing, with soap, and to bring it over for fresh lubrication, and final adjustment, of all the movable stuff. Lookin for him later this afternoon.

I told him to sell all his other junk, and keep this one. He was going to flip it for $20-40, at a garage sale. The rest of his stable, about 5 bikes, is all super low end big box stuff. All of the rest of them, together, aren't worth half of what this one is worth. I have convinced him that this one is the "treasure" that he has been looking for, for the past 10 years.

It's a nice riding bike, and fits him well. He now says that this is the nicest riding bike he has ever ridden....... Nice find!

Now, I might be able to drag him out for a ride with me.....
