+1. I think when people use the term "drafting" they must be envisioning bumper-to-bumper Nascar-like driving, which of course is stupid. You can still benefit by keeping a reasonable distance. Driving the LIE, you have no choice but to drive in a 3-4 lane continuous stream of drafting automobiles, that is when the stream is actually moving above a cycling pace, which it often isn't. Fortunately I rarely need to drive on it .

I experimented with hypermiling earlier this summer, but I only ended up saving a few bucks per week, which wasn't really worth the effort. Unfortunately many of the most effective techniques are dangerous. You'll save more money by minimizing your driving and not driving like a jackass.
