It is, I didn't butcher them I just took the posts off, so I can screw them in and add cantis if I ever want to in the future. It actually pissed me off a bit that they didn't include the cable hangars to use cantis, so I went with calipers.... only to find out that the holes for calipers were too small (rear hole in the fork was too small, rear holes in the frame had a threaded insert), but ended up drilling them out to make it work.
Not ideal i'd say, but I ended up with a working bike and I'm not concerned at all with the stability and power of my brakes. I'll see if it's worth moving for fenders, but this place is a lot drier than where I used to commute and involves no trail riding.... so I may not even bother.
