I bought one of these Cycle Trees and it works well to save on floor space. They can hold six adult bikes. I have six single bikes (two kids) and a tandem (I bought a rope hoist for the tandem and use this tree for the rest). I considered actually building one, but it turns out that the time and materials where I am would cost more than just simply buying it.

It rolls freely so you would only need to make sure that you have enough space (look at the inset picture: it's about a square with the diagonal the length of two 26" wheels) with both cars in. A small corner would probably suffice (unless you have two honking Hummers...)
