I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for storing 9 bikes in a double garage? 5 are adult sized bikes the rest are kid bikes. I would like to park both our cars in the garage this winter but with all the bikes last winter we only parked one in the garage. I have looked at a monkey bar system which seems pretty good but is there another way. I am the only one who rides in the winter so I would like to keep the rest up and out of the way. Thanks.

if the garage is tall enough, you could also get a bunch of bike hoists to put them up with. I've got a couple of those, but gave up and only put 1 car in.

I bought one of these Cycle Trees and it works well to save on floor space. They can hold six adult bikes. I have six single bikes (two kids) and a tandem (I bought a rope hoist for the tandem and use this tree for the rest). I considered actually building one, but it turns out that the time and materials where I am would cost more than just simply buying it.

It rolls freely so you would only need to make sure that you have enough space (look at the inset picture: it's about a square with the diagonal the length of two 26" wheels) with both cars in. A small corner would probably suffice (unless you have two honking Hummers...)

Since you're the only one who rides in winter, could you hang everybody else's bikes from rafters or joists (just use cheap bike hooks--you don't need hoists if they're not going to be going up and down all the time) and put one or two of yours on hooks in the wall where they're accessible?

Suspend them from the ceiling...

Somewhere on this forum, there are pics of a system that uses garage door rails, and lenghts of pipe with garage door rollers in them for an overhead racks.

S hooks were placed on the lenghts of pipe to accomodate different size bikes and bikes could be moved close together or apart as needed since the pipes were on rollers. It was a very cool system of storage.
