They used to make walkable touring shoes like these specifically designed for use with toe clips, straps and cage pedals. Note the little "cleat" ridges. These were sold by Performance Bicycle and I got them about 25 years ago. Still use them with my old school touring bikes.
I used to have those exact shoes and I was wishing for them just today! Can't find anything like them anymore in my large size.
