Anyone use the Lake Touring shoes? They look pretty good to me.

Those look fantastic, jbonamici.
We stopped at Campmor in northern New Jersey recently. I convinced my wife to get SPD pedals and shoes. She got shoes that look like running shoes and are good for walking. I think they are also the Lake brand.
Next, I'd like a DRESS shoe with an SPD cleat.
Sometimes, I hate Shimano, but I gotta say, SPD is one of the best things they invented. Its potential hasn't even been exploited yet.
I'm currently wearing Nashbar SPD-type sandals. When they wear out, I'm getting genuine Shimano sandals. I guess I have a love/hate relationship with Shimano.

My other favorites for riding are several pairs of Rivat shoes. I bought a pair about 20 years ago, and then recently found two more pairs on eBay. They have much harder, stiffer soles, and were meant to be used with plastic cleats, but I've never done that. I can't cycle without toe clips, and I can't cycle with cleats either. These are very comfortable to ride in, but not so much for walking. The Onitsukas are comfy for either one.

I went to many of the links shown on that page, even to thet Vittoria web site directly. The whole thing is BS. The Vittoria 1976 shoe is not really available, not even from Vittoria. It's all just a big come on. They appear to be offering the product but when you actually try to buy a pair, they are unavailable.

P.S. - that Vittoria web page shows 44 1/2 as the largest size. I wear a 48. BTW, a lot of European shoes equate a 47 to US size 13. That is wrong. A US 13 is a European 48 minimum, and may be larger depending upon the last they use for the shoe.
The Quoc Pham site claims 46 = 13. That is ridiculous. I could not even get my size 13 foot into a size 46 shoe. I won't order something I know won't fit.
The Brick Lane Bike web site does not show shoes for sale at all.

You missed my point. You cannot order the shoes. There are plenty of places to see pretty pictures of the Vittoria shoes, like the one you linked. It's that there are no places to BUY them. It's not just Vittoria, either. The other maker(s) shown had defunct web sites, so their shoes were unavailable, too.

Perhaps you could check the size chart at the bottom of the page. You could also send an email to the local distributors or Brick Lane Bikes, as I suggested.

I am telling the entire shoe industry if they are listening, US men's size 13 does NOT fit into a shoe marked (european) 46. They barely, and uncomfortably, fit into a european size 47 but would better fit into a 48.
Yes, my feet have been measured recently. The (slightly) larger of my two feet measures a US size 13.
For example,I recently mail ordered a replacement pair of Keen sandals. They were identical in style and outward appearance to a pair that is wearing out. The originals were marked 13. The replacements have this stamping on them that say, amongst other sizing info, Euro 47 and US 13. The replacement pair is physically smaller than the older pair (proabably made to US standards) that were marked only as size 13. My guess is the replacement pair was likely made on a size 47 shoe last. It is truly a Euro 47. It is not a US 13. They barely fit me and MUCH less comfortable than the older US 13.
No matter the markings on the shoe, I need a US 13. I think the closest Euro size to this is a 48 (not 46 or 47).

I hesitate to special order something like a shoe which may or may not fit unless I have the option to return it. Most shops do not allow this on special orders.

I'm not in the footwear industry. I don't understand why you are ranting to me about the various shoe sizing systems used around the world. It really is of no concern to me.
I merely posted a few pics of shoes.
I wear size 45 shoes btw.

Truly, it is a rant. As such, don't take it personally. I apologize, completely. I am just ranting.
(I edited the post to try and tone it down a bit and redirect the comments away from you.)
I have had trouble with ill-fitting shoes my entire life. I recently purchased a Detto Pietro in size 47. They are too small and are uncomfortable wear. They were billed as having a leather sole but actually have a molded plastic sole with a thin veneer of leather on the outside. I'm totally frustrated at my inability to get a vintage or vintage-styled shoe that fits.

They used to make walkable touring shoes like these specifically designed for use with toe clips, straps and cage pedals. Note the little "cleat" ridges. These were sold by Performance Bicycle and I got them about 25 years ago. Still use them with my old school touring bikes.

That being said, they seem to me to be pretty much like mountain bike shoes, except that you can't put cleats on them!
After riding with clipless pedals and shoes for the past couple years, I don't think I could seriously ride in sneakers again, but I would like to use the pedals and straps that are on my C&V build nearing completion, so I think I'm going to get a nice pair of MTB shoes and just not put cleats on them.

Actually, they are a lot different than MTB shoes. For one thing, they are much easier to walk in, feeling more like walking shoes than stiff hiking boots the way MTB shoes feel. For another, they are shaped much better to fit in toe clips, whereas MTB shoes are taller and the sole is more curved. And the little rib cleats really help keep your foot in place when pulling back such as out of the saddle climbing. I too only use them on my vintage rigs, having long since switched to clipless for my modern rides.

I agree, it's really frustrating to have the bike set up correctly and have a ride spoiled by uncomfortable shoes. We're a significant and growing market being ignored. Someone must be able to design and sell a good looking shoe in a broader range of sizes.
(my rant over)

I may have opened the door for a rantfest, but maybe our cries for help will be heard!

I understand your pain, literally!

If someone is looking for non clipless shoes ..... look at what is called "boat shoes" . Leather or canvas ones. I got a pair of Columbia 4 Fish canvas boat shoes at Sierra Trading Post for about $35. https://www.sierratradingpost.com/p/,...s-For-Men.html There's not many sizes left. I replaced the laces with elastic drawcord for a snug , yet flexible fit. Tuck the extra under the front of the lacing and you're good to go.

Sperry Top Siders is another shoe, as well as Vann's or even Converse All-Stars.

There is an answer to all of this sizing discrepancy mess, its called "Mondo" sizing. Its already widely used in Snowboarding/Skiing Boots and Skateboard shoes. Mondo size measurements are in cm, and if you know your Mondo size you can generally be 99% sure that you are getting the correct size shoe.
For example, I am a Mondo size 29. Thats a US10 when I wear a pair of Clarks, but its a US 10.5 with Adidas, and Its a US 11 on my Salomon Snowboarding boots. The nice thing is that on each of those 3 pairs of footwear, the size tag lists the 3 size types...the Mondo size is the same for all 3.
