Yes, my feet have been measured recently. The (slightly) larger of my two feet measures a US size 13.
For example,I recently mail ordered a replacement pair of Keen sandals. They were identical in style and outward appearance to a pair that is wearing out. The originals were marked 13. The replacements have this stamping on them that say, amongst other sizing info, Euro 47 and US 13. The replacement pair is physically smaller than the older pair (proabably made to US standards) that were marked only as size 13. My guess is the replacement pair was likely made on a size 47 shoe last. It is truly a Euro 47. It is not a US 13. They barely fit me and MUCH less comfortable than the older US 13.
No matter the markings on the shoe, I need a US 13. I think the closest Euro size to this is a 48 (not 46 or 47).
Mike, as I'm sure you've noticed, to add insult to injury some size US13 shoes are cut on the small or large side and actually fit more like a US12.5 or US13.5.
There is an answer to all of this sizing discrepancy mess, its called "Mondo" sizing. Its already widely used in Snowboarding/Skiing Boots and Skateboard shoes. Mondo size measurements are in cm, and if you know your Mondo size you can generally be 99% sure that you are getting the correct size shoe.
For example, I am a Mondo size 29. Thats a US10 when I wear a pair of Clarks, but its a US 10.5 with Adidas, and Its a US 11 on my Salomon Snowboarding boots. The nice thing is that on each of those 3 pairs of footwear, the size tag lists the 3 size types...the Mondo size is the same for all 3.
