You might want to brush up a bit on those spatial recognition skills. In the OP's case you keep suggesting that he move left into the next lane when he was on "a two lane road." That makes the next lane the one on the other side of the street. Moving into it would be 1) illegal, and 2) dangerous since anyone turning off of the 4-lane road wouldn't be expecting to find a cyclist standing right in their path.

In UMD's case you also suggest he should have moved over to let the car by. But the car driver was trying to make a right turn onto a one-way street going the other way. Encouraging such a move wouldn't be wise and could easily lead to an accident.
