My information is about 3 years old but Paketas were made in a small outbuilding (i.e. garage) on somebody's poperty about 2 miles from my house in Lafayette, Colorado. They may have since moved to Golden.
Dave Walker gave me a tour or the "factory" at the time. They designed the extrusion profiles and had an extruder supply them with tubes. Extrusion dies are quite cheap - less than $5000 per profile. They brought the tubing in, cut to length, coped the tubes to each other and welded them up in a jig. No different than steel, aluminum or titanium frame building - just a different material.
I can see why this buisiness model fits tandems better than single bikes - less competition from Chinese factories.
