^ I have a Griffen single bike. Boron Carbide Ceramic Metal Matrix. An idea that came and went pretty quickly.
At the Co-Motion Classic this year, there was a team on a tandem built by Griffen, but it was done custom I believe and had a longer rear compartment.

a good friend of mine, nick frey, recently began marketing his bamboo bicycles, BOO BICYCLES. they have made road versions, commuter versions, cyclocross versions, and a track model. there is one tandem bike, built by and for the man who supervises construction of the bikes, in vietnam.
my question is this: how does the paketa bike compare to a bamboo tandem? i will be getting a small frameset, with a 50cm captain and 50 cm stoker, so weight should be low and stiffness high regardless. but what are the pros and cons of each of these frame material? can someone do a compare and contrast for me?
thanks so much. this decision process is excruciating, frankly...

Bikes: Custom Zona c/f tandem + Scott Plasma single
Have ridden a bamboo Calfee single; every bit as comfortable as a Calfee carbon fiber.
Have hefted/seen Paketa tandem at Interbike a few years ago, but not ridden one; so have no comparison experience.
As far as overseas mass production goes for c/f or mg tandems, it is just too small of a market niche for them to spend the $$$ necessary.
C/f tandems are quite labor intensive, but then you get what you pay for.
We do ride a custom c/f Zona tandem and just celebrated our 25,000th mile on in 2009. Still extremely pleased with it! Quality lasts . . .

I notice that Paketa is now a sponsor of this forum.
I have seen only one of these in person. I don't know that the owners frequent this forum. They have had the bike only about 2 - 3 months. They came from a steel tandem (wrecked in an accident). They seemed to really like the Paketa.
Most forum members who go high-end go carbon fiber. For those who have, did they consider the magnesium Paketa? If not, why not? If so, why did they choose CF over mg?
Anyone on this forum try or own a Paketa?

PAKETA is Russian for rocket(P=R), so I think it should be pronounced " Raketa." Is it really a rocket?:-)

Its funny that you are torn between two very different and uncommon frame materials. I guess you figure steel, aluminum and carbon are too prosaic.
